Wayne Elliott - State Masters Champion
Wayne Elliott (Shoreline Showbags) has retained the State Masters championship he won in Launceston last year. It is Wayne's 5th Masters title to leave him the dominate player in this event. After the round robin Launceston player Rodney Martin (Sunnyhill Racers) topped qualifying with Wayne Elliott and Tony Adams (Beltana Saints) = 2nd and Chris Snare (Shoreline Showbags) 4th. As this event was also the selection event for this year's Masters team to attend the national titles in NSW those top 4 players will now represent Tasmania at the Nationals.
The top four then played a final to get the final seedings for the nationals. As Wayne and Tony finished = 2nd they had to have a playoff to see who finished 2nd & 3rd which was won by Tony Adams. In the 1st Semi Final, Wayne Elliott def Chris Snare and in the 2nd Semi Final, Rodney Martin def Tony Adams. The Preliminary Final saw Wayne reverse the result of the playoff defeating Tony Adams to set up the Grand Final with Rodney Martin. Wayne proved too strong in the Final to win his 5th Masters title.
There was also a playoff for position 5, 6 & 7th in case any of the top 4 are unable to travel, this playoff was won by Barry Milburn finishing 5th and Launceston players Bruce Lockely 6th & Grant Lee 7th.

Cale Barrett - Under 15 Aust Snooker Champion
The young Penguin cueist Cale Barrett has defended the Australian Under 15 Snooker Championship he won last year by winning this years event  in Brisbane over the weekend, winning the final against Jayme White (Qld) 4 - 3, fighting back from 3 - 1 down and knocking in a 53 break in the final, he was also Runner Up in the Under 15 Billiards Final. Also attending these national champonships was the young cueist from the East's Rugby White team Alexander Pace who still at only 13, still has a couple of years in this age group and the expierence gained from this year will be of huge benefit over the coming years. Cale also competed in the Under 18 age group making the quarter finals of the snooker event, topping of a great championship for Cale.
Eightball Tasmania are planning to hold an Association ‘B’ Grade Teams Event on the June long weekend (June 11, 12 and 13) at the Launceston Workers Club starting at 10.00am. The event is specifically aimed at Associations to enter a combined team from your Association hotels/clubs and to be made up a team of ‘B’ grade players to represent your Association, only 5 players required for a team to play and Associations can enter 2 teams if they wish in the event. The cost per Association team into the event is $25 per team and can be paid on the day or Eightball Tas will invoice your Association after the event, there will be medallions for the winning and runner up teams and trophy for the best player.
While the event is scheduled to run 3 days, this will depend on the amount of teams entered, so we must have all teams submitted by Saturday May 28th so we can notify your Associations of the playing format and if 2 days or 3 days will be used.
I will place teams entered on to the 8Ball Tasmania web site as we receive so you can keep an eye on the amount entered, once we reach 7 teams we will require 3 days to run, so please send in your teams as soon as possible.
If we only obtain 3 teams the event will be cancelled.
You can enter your team on the Eightball Tasmania web site or have your Association do it for you.
Any questions please contact me Andrew Saltmarsh on 6344 8788 or email.
Anthony Adams
2011 State Open Singles Champion
Over the weekend EightBall Tasmania conducted the 2011 State Open Singles Championship at the Launceston Workers Club. This event was won by the Beltana Saints Anthony Adams who defeated the Shoreline Hotel's Marcus Jackson 6 - 3 in the Final. Anthony defeated the Rugby Club Breaker's Chris Forsyth 5 - 1 in his Semi Final, while Marcus defeated another Rugby Club Breaker's player Ricky Lee 5 - 4 in the other Semi Final. The State Open Title adds to Anthony's bulging list of titles including numerous Tasmanian Under Age Championships and of course his 2009 Australian Under 18 Singles Championship. In winning the State title Anthony now has direct entry into this years State Team and he will be a seeded player in this years Australian Singles Championships that will be held in NSW. Congratulations to both Anthony & Marcus on a great preformance.
David Lee
Winner - 2011 Tasmanian 8 Ball Calcutta
Congratulations to David Lee on defending the State Calcutta that he won last year by winning this years State Calcutta. This year was a family affair with David defeating his brother Ricky Lee in the final 5 - 4.
Special mention must go to Ricky who beat current World 8 Ball Champion Michael Hill from the UK, who is currently touring the State with some exhibition shows, Ricky defeated Mick twice in the double elimination format, a great effort by Ricky.
In all 27 people played in the event which was our highest number of entries in recent years and those present were treated to some high quality games, not only by Mick Hill but also the Lee boys (Some video footage will be uploaded to the Eightball Tasmania Facebook page).
Foreshore Breakers
2011 State Teams Champions
Forehore Breakers - Tony Cannan, Luke Webb, Geoff Youd, Jeremy McGuire, Chris Forsyth, Kirk Muir, Darren Hay, Ricky Lee
Played at the Launceston Workers Club on March 19th & 20th the Foreshore Breakers found itself in third position on the ladder after the round robin and having to face the favourites the HWC Niners in the preliminary final with the winner advancing to the final to play the top of the ladder team, the undefeated Alexander Red, of Devonport.

The preliminary final match went down to the wire with scores at 9-9 going into the last set. The Foreshore team managed to win 13-11 with veteran Geoff Youd winning a great tactical match against Andrew Triffitt in the second last frame.

The final proved just as close with the Devonport team winning 4-2 in the last set to salvage a draw at 12-all. This resulted in both teams putting up five players each in a race to three, unfortunately for Alexander Red the strength of the Foreshore team saw it wrap up the playoff 3-0 with Chris Forsyth, Ricky Lee and Breakers captain Jeremy McGuire all winning their games to deny Devonport a State Team title after being runner-up on four previous occasions. It was a great weekend and with eight (8) teams competing from five (5) different associations it was good to see that this important event on the State Calender is getting back to where it was a few years ago.
